Letters to Andrew and William Strahan, English printers and members of Parliament, discussing English foreign policy during and after the American Revolution, especially relations with Russia and Germany, and rumors about the movements of foreign ships, including those of France, Spain, and Sweden. Lord Nelson, King George III, and France's Prince of Condé are discussed. The first letter, from George Beckwith to Andrew Strahan, is dated Aug. 29, 1779; the second, from John Beckwith to William Strahan, is dated May 23, 1780; the third, from Thomas Beckwith to Andrew Strahan, is dated May 15, 1801.

Thomas Somerville, the only son of minister William Somerville, was born in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland, in 1741. In 1756, he matriculated at the University of Edinburgh, where he studied divinity.
